This month, get to know one of our decorative hardware consultants who has been helping customers’ houses become homes at Modern Hardware for 8 years.

Meet Kristen Haywood:

1. What inspired you to become a decorative hardware consultant?

I built my own home and enjoyed the process. I love to use my skills to help others make their house a home.

2. What are some of the latest trends in decorative hardware that you’ve noticed?

Matte Black, brushed brass, and knurled hardware. Also a lot of two toned hardware is popular.

3. How do you approach working with clients to select the perfect hardware for their project?

I start by asking what type of project they are working on because that shapes the selection process.

4. What do you enjoy most about working as a decorative hardware consultant?

The relationships I have gained with designers and builders are the best part.

5. What’s your favorite type of decorative hardware to work with and why?

Cabinet hardware. There are so many variations and the use has endless possibilities.

6. What’s the most unique piece of decorative hardware you’ve ever seen or worked with?

For me, it’s always the Mortise locks.

7. When you’re not working with decorative hardware, what are some of your hobbies or interests?

Spending time with family, yard work, and working on my aquarium.

8. If you could describe yourself in one word, what would it be and why?

Dedicated. If I start a project, I always follow through and aim to achieve the best results possible.
